Life Story for Mary Trowbridge (Viele)

Mary Trowbridge of Vermontville peacefully passed away, at the age of 91, from natural causes on Tuesday, May 28, 2019.

Vern Trowbridge, her loving husband of 68 years, preceded her in death in February 2017. Together they raised four children: Roger (Sue) Trowbridge of Vermontville, Karen Trowbridge of Cincinnati, Vergie (Walt) Shaw of Olivet, and Harold Trowbridge of Charlotte. Retha (Doug) Puvogel, their “adopted” daughter, holds a special place in their heart.

For 48 years, Mary and Vern owned and operated Trowbridge Sales & Service on Mainstreet in Vermontville. Vern ran the shop and Mary managed the office. Mary also contributed to the “shop-side” by being highly adept at locating and obtaining needed repair parts.

As a lifelong resident of Vermontville, Mary was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Vermontville Chamber of Commerce, and Vermontville’s Maple Syrup Association. Mary and Vern enjoyed square dancing with friends in Buds Duds. They also took great pleasure spending winters camping in Florida and Arizona. Mary is fondly remembered for her open-door policy, her home was your home, and you were always welcome.

Mary was the daughter of Rolla and Cleo Viele. She graduated from Vermontville High School in 1947. Mary also went on to attend Michigan State College where she was enrolled in Short Course for home economics and maintains those friends to this day. She was preceded in death by her sister Jeanette Strait and her brother John Viele and is survived by her brother Charles (Louise) Viele and sister Rachel Weiler.
Mary is the loving grandmother of Rob (Nicole) Trowbridge, Andy (Michelle) Trowbridge, Mark (Debbie) Trowbridge, James (Kelly) Shaw, Tricia Shaw, and Seth Trowbridge. She is the doting great- grandmother of Joshua, Kaylea, Grace, Alexander, Eliza, and Breanna.
