Life Story for Norma Hummel

Norma Hummel

Mrs. Norma Hummel, age 91, of Vermontville passed away Friday, May 24th, 2019.

Norma was born in Hastings, MI on January 31, 1928, the daughter of the late Clyde and Leila (Bronson) Clapper.

She was raised in the Vermontville area and attended local schools graduating from Vermontville High School in 1945.

She was the widow of Mr. Richard "Dick" Hummel. The couple was married in 1946 shortly after Norma graduated from high school. They made their home together in the Vermontville area where they raised their family together. Early in their marriage Norma worked as a Quality Control Supervisor at Michigan Magnetics in Vermontville for 11 years before leaving her position to focus entirely on the care of her family.

Together the couple enjoyed traveling to Tubbs Lake each weekend during the summer months to visit their trailer where they would meet their children and grandchildren for a weekend away. When the family was together, she enjoyed playing card games, especially the game "13". Norma was a member of the First Congregational Church in Vermontville for over 50 years, where she was active in the Ladies Christian Association and the choir.

Norma's grandchildren were the pride of her life and she loved attending their sporting events while they were students at Maple Valley Schools and visiting her grandchildren in Florida. In her younger years she enjoyed bowling with her friends from Nashville in the Hastings Bowling Leagues.

Norma is survived by her beloved daughters, Janeen (Terry) Taylor, Peggy (Dale) Fisher, her son, Randy (Lorie) Hummel, her sister, Neva Hokanson.
