Life Story for Doreen Sherman

Doreen Sherman

NASHVILLE, MI -

Doreen Sherman, age 93 of Nashville, passed away Wednesday, February 22nd, 2017 with her family at her side. Doreen was born May 4th, 1923, in Hastings, the daughter of Mennetta Miller. She was raised on the family farm through the Great Depression and adopted a love for hunting, many times out-hunting the men. She graduated from Hastings High School in the class of 1941. She was married to Robert Matthew Sherman on December 19, 1941, who she had 3 beautiful girls with. Doreen spent countless hours as a volunteer for the VFW in Nashville from calling bingo, to cooking for Penny Suppers, funeral luncheons and fish fries. She also drove appointment cars for the Red Cross and worked umpteen blood drives. She retired from Kellogg's in Battle Creek in 1988. Doreen loved, and was loved by, her family more than anything and raised her 3 children independently following Robert's passing. They enjoyed their summer cottage on Thornapple Lake and ran Thornapple Marina. Doreen knew how to have a great time wherever she was and with whomever she was with. She also had a love for taking in others - from animals to people alike. She loved to garden and had a truly green thumb, especially for her caster bean plants that grew to be taller than her home. Doreen is survived by daughters Linda (George) James, of Hastings, and Darla (Tom) Cady, of Nashville, her grandchildren Kori Zimmerman, Linsey (Toni) Jacinto, Casey (Matt) Gergen and Rob Cady, and her beloved great-grandchildren Jacee Jacinto and Claire and Michael Gergen. She is also survived by her honorary children Jim Cutcher, Laura Martin, and Terry Oversmith. Doreen was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and oldest daughter Pamela Sue Patten. Doreen's funeral services will be conducted on Monday, February 27th, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville. Visitation will be held at Daniels on Sunday, February 26th from 2-4 pm, and again on Monday one hour prior to the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to VFW Post 8260 in Nashville would be appreciated.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville. For further details please visit our website at www.danielsfuneralhome.net
