Life Story for Robert Shumaker

Robert  Shumaker
Mr. Robert Lee. Shumaker, 73, of Vermontville passed away Friday, May 6th, 2016 at Spectrum Health Pennock Hospital, in Hastings, MI.

Robert was born in Vermontville, MI on November 3, 1942, the son of the late Gerald and Ina (Hoke) Shumaker. He was raised in the Vermontville area and attended local schools completing his education after joining the United States Navy

He was the husband of Ollie (Edick) Shumaker. The couple was married on July 3, 1965 in Sunfield, MI. In 1970 Robert and Ollie moved to the their home in Vermontville where they raised their family together.

Robert worked as a Welder at Hastings Manufacturing for over 20 years, retiring in 2001.

Robert enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing and shooting Trap. He shot competitively for several years and won a state competition. Along with his wife, the couple enjoyed spending time in the winter traveling to Florida where they visited the local flea markets. Bob loved his dogs "Sam" & "Judd", and the three of them spent numerous hours together traveling. Where Bob went his dogs went as well. Bob is being buried in the pine casket which he built himself shortly after retiring.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years Ollie, his daughter Lisa (Todd) Pearson, Son Spencer (Beth) Shumaker, sisters Kathleen Dornan, Carol Ann (Dick) Landes, grandchildren Joel Hewlett and girlfriend Kendra O'mans, Jordan Hewlett, Shiann Adams, Travis Flood, Trevor & Danielle Smith, Special friends Sister& Brother in law Nancy and Albert Ainsworth.

He was preceded in death by his son John R. Shumaker who passed away in 1971, his brother "Junior" Shumaker, and Elaine Harmon.

Graveside Services will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery concerning only Bob's family at his request.
