Life Story for Kay F. Rathburn

Mr. Kay F. Rathburn

Mr. Kay F. Rathburn, age 69, of Vermontville passed away on Friday, April 15th, 2016 at his home with his family by his side.

Kay was born in Fostoria, OH on July 26, 1946, the son of the late Amos and Bertie (Curtis) Rathburn. He was raised in Toledo, OH. and attended local schools graduating from Whitmer High School in 1965. After graduating, Kay joined the United States Navy where he served three tours during the Vietnam War. While serving his country he was decorated for his outstanding engineering work, and was given the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Kay was honorably discharged on October 26, 1973. After completing his military service Kay became very active in the Local VFW Post 8260, holding several offices including Quarter Master which held for over 18 years.

Kay spent the majority of his working career in facilities maintenance for the federal government retiring after 28 years. After retiring he worked at the local hardware store in Nashville, and Justin Carriage Works,

When he was younger, he enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting, fishing, and working around the house. Kay loved spending time with his friends at the VFW, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Kay is survived by two sons Kevin Rathburn, Kenneth (Teresa) Rathburn, sister, Edna Davenport brother, Karl (Bonnie) Rathburn, grandchildren Kayne Rathburn, Dwain Reynolds III, William Rountree, Gary & Jean Rountree, Nieces & Nephews Karl Rathburn Jr., Jennifer Pierson, Sonia Vaughn, John Borzymowski, Cindy Estes. He was preceded in death by his brother Amos Rathburn

Funeral Services will be held at The Daniels Funeral Home, Nashville, MI, at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, April 19th, with Charles Jensen officiating. The family will receive visitors 2 hours prior to the funeral service beginning at 11 AM until service time at The Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville.

There will be a time of fellowship and luncheon immediately following the funeral service at the Nashville VFW Post 8260.

Kay will be interned with full military honors at Fort Custer National.

Memorial contributions can be made directly to the family of Mr. Kay Rathburn.
