Verne L. Jewell

Mr. Verne L. Jewell, age 91, of Nashville passed away Monday, March 28th, 2016 at Eaton County Medical Care Facility, in Charlotte, MI.

Verne was born in Femont, MI on October 24, 1924, the son of the late Dana and Imo (Love) Jewell. He was raised in the Hesperia/Fremont area and attended Hesperia High School.

He was the widower of Verna (Griffin) Jewell. The couple married October 2, 1948 and in 1966 they settled with their two sons on their farm in Easton Township in Ionia County. Their farm operation produced milk from their herd of Holstein cattle and wool from their flock of sheep. They also raised and enjoyed donkeys, Border Collie dogs, chickens and peacocks. They were very supportive of the 4-H program with their sons winning many awards while showing their cattle at the local, regional and state Holstein shows. Verne was especially fond of his Arabian Stallion. He also enjoyed working with wood and constructed all of the wagons his donkey's pulled around the farm. In his younger years Verne enjoyed trapping Fox. He began trapping out of necessity, as they were killing the turkeys on the farm where Verne was working. Verne passed these trapping skills onto his son Don.

Verne is survived by his son Donald (Janice) Jewell, grandchildren Marie ( Shawn) Douglass, Michelle (Kurt) Rhodes, Melissa (Chad) Croff, Mary (Matt) Gordeneer, great grandchildren Tim Wilson, Isaac Douglass, Isabelle Douglass and Eliana & Evelyn Croff

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Verna, and his older sister Arlene Laird

Funeral Services will he held at The Daniels Funeral Home, Nashville, MI, at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 2nd, with Pastor Nancy Patera officiating. The family will receive visitor on Saturday April 2nd, 2016 an hour prior to the funeral service beginning at 9:00 AM at The Daniels Funeral Home in Nashville.

Interment will take place at the Jewell Family Cemetery in Fremont, MI.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Maple Valley Scholarship Fund.
