Jacob "Jake" Austhof, age 88, of Grand Rapids. Michigan went to be with Jesus on May 20, 2015. Jake was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on March 21, 1927. He is survived by his wife, Laurie, his children, Jim (Vickie) Austhof, Jack (Nancy) Austhof, Deborah (Dick) Frisbie, Dawn (Joe) Vos, stepchildren Jill Landman Alfond, Bradley (Stacey) Landman, 10 grandchildren, and 15 great grand children. Jake was a veteran of WW2 ,where he faithfully served in the navy. At the age of 16 Jake began working at and later purchased Sobie Company, an interior contracting firm, where he worked until his retirement in 1991.. He loved His Lord, his family, his friends, travelling, and golf. Jake was a recovering alcoholic for 42 years and helped many people achieve the success that he so cherished. He had a zest for life and practical jokes. Celebration of his life will take place at Nashville Baptist Church, 320 Phillips Street, Nashville, Michigan on Thursday May 28, 2015. Visitation will be at church from 2 - 5 p.m. The service will begin at 5:00 p.m. Rev. Lester DeGroot officiating. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to Potter House School, Nashville Baptist Church or a charity of ones choice.
